“Welcome back everyone to our new school year” that starts tomorrow – Tues., Sept 3. We look forward to another wonderful year at Ridgewood filled with learning and growth. We will continue supporting each of you – building learning and learning skills to help you grow as a student and achieve success in the classroom. Throughout our school year, we will also be focusing on fostering your self-regulation skills through the nurturing of executive functions to help everyone work towards establishing an expanded skill set to support their overall growth and student success. “Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully.” Each month we will review an executive function for students to learn about, helping them better understand how this self-regulation skill better can support them. To start our school year in September – we will focus on: Organization (creating and maintaining a system to keep track of information or materials) and Task Initiation (the ability to begin projects in a timely manner). Other executive functions we will focus on this school year include: Goal-directed persistence, working memory, emotional control, planning and prioritizing, response inhibition, metacognition, flexibility, time management and sustained attention. All the BEST Ridgewood Wolves for a fabulous school year !!
