Flags to be at half-mast in memory of children sent to residential schools

The flag at our school is lowered today and will remain lowered to honour the 215 lives taken at the former residential school in British Columbia.

The bodies of the 215 children were discovered last week during a search of the grounds of a former residential school  in Kamloops, British Columbia. This 9 day remembrance will represent one hour for each child whose life was taken at this location as part of the cultural genocide inflicted on the first peoples of Canada.

We extend our sympathies to the families of these children and of the thousands of children who were sent to residential schools, many who never returned.  We commit to continuing our learning about the lives forever impacted by the residential school experience in Canada.
